I have a Kindle and Nook, and while I've mostly moved to the Nook for all my newer purchases, I may again make the move to Kobo as it seems Nook isn't that much better than the Kindle in terms of backing up your files.

There is a feed you can change to so it's only friends, but I don't think you can default to it so definitely annoying.
