The reason is that Apple has put financial, technical and contractual barriers in place that make it not feasible for other parties to ship their own engines to iOS.

As long as Apple makes it basically impossible to release a browser with another engine on iOS, I'm afraid this won't help much.

The point is that the WhatsApp native app provides good offline support by providing the best UX possible for that situation. This is something that web apps can do as well but instead, they usually don't work offline at all.

Would it make sense to have some CSS way to style an element based on the mouse position relative to that element?
So for example, an element would increase in height while the mouse moves closer to the bottom of that element or decreases in height while it moves towards its top.

I do notice an issue in Firefox 144 where document.startViewTransition() works only once. Some full-screen pseudo-element stays on the page, blocking interaction with all other elements. When I navigate to another tab and back, it works again once.
It's fixed in 146:
