The thing is you don’t even need to join “your own” party. Join the one you think is the most broken and vote to make it better as that’ll help the whole system, eg the Tories as you say

One of the first things I ask anyone I speak to who moans about UK politics is if they are a member of a party. If they are actually serious about making UK politics better it’s the easiest way to have an impact

This for me is the #1 issue in politics: “normal” people don’t engage and become members of parties. They’ll then moan about poor quality party leaders and MPs. But it’s literally caused by them opting out, leaving the more extreme minority of the population to drive the shape of political parties

The impact on income is even worse now due to the Free Childcare for Working Parents scheme. This is ofc needed but >£100k you can literally become poorer due to nursery fees. Know countless 30-somethings trying to reduce their incomes which is mental as these are the people you want driving growth
