yeah the online ones I'm looking at are used and the biggest worry I have there is that manufacturer warranty doesn't transfer to second owner. so any big deal problems are immediately way more expensive. trade off on initial price v long term expense of maintaining, basically

right but if it's manufacturer warranty then I have no reason to prefer a shitty dealer over a less shitty dealer lol

yeah I took a look at what they carry when I first started looking and they just don't deal want of the the bikes/brands I'm interested in unfortunately
they're also particularly inaccessible to me if I had a problem and needed service given their location

they have a decent warranty on the motor/battery and the frame is lifetime, but the shop itself just offers a free 100-mile check-in/tune-up

yeah if I am willing to spend a couple hundred more dollars and wait a couple of weeks I can get it at a different shop that is also much closer to my home. leaning that way

(tho I confess I was mostly thinking I owed it to them to buy there bc they let me come and test ride a bunch at their shop which is just silly)

they do have the bike I'm looking at for a couple hundred less than it would be at a shop that's a short walk from my house, and they have it in stock now whereas the closer place would need a couple weeks to get it in

wow that's just gutting to hear. reading was my favorite thing as a kid (still is!) and idk where I'd be if they hadn't taught me how to do it well. feels like the absolute most abject kind of failure of a school system

that would be great lol. the couple of bike shops near to me that I've interacted with over the years have each done me dirty (in different ways) at times. that said I actually forgot there's a newer place nearby and just talked to the guy there who was extremely helpful so at least there's that 🤪

it's the same guy every time. like folks were friendly and helpful when I was in the store. but this is the guy who answers the phones I guess? and his attitude really makes me not want to shop there at all. not 100% convinced it isn't a gendered thing, too

this shop is also p far from my house (see my post this morning about my flat) which means if something went wrong and I wanted to go to them for a fix, it would be a nightmare to get my bike to them. unlike my analog hybrid, a longtail is not going to fit in the racks on the front of our city bikes

(1) every time I call to ask questions abt this very large purchase, the guy I speak with is a total ass. very condescending
(2) they don't offer any service plans for these VERY EXPENSIVE bikes that they sell
(3) used ones online are about 25% cheaper
(4) did I mention what a prick this guy is?
