Alana Cook went from afterthought in Seattle to USWNT caliber CB again before her injury. She said she wanted to play under Vlatko's system when she was traded here.
Kayla Sharples wasn't playing games at a bad Bay FC team last year. In 18 months under Vlatko, probably the best DFOY choice.

Not only is the timing of the NWSL EOY awards flawed, the Midfielder of the year finalists, 2/5 are forwards while Coffey and Flint are absent?
Maybe shouldn't surprise me when the same ballots had Hailie Mace as a midfielder during team of the month voting.

Most of the (genuine) arguments I'm receiving on this hinge on a read of roster quality in KC and Louisville that I don't think holds up.
Obviously KC & Spirit have stronger & deeper squads than Louisville, but the size of the gap required for that argument to work don't exist in the NWSL.
