“Centrists”: The easiest way to win is to WANT to lose, and then guarantee it by dissatisfying everyone.

Reason #1 to primary-challenge invertebrate Democrat incumbents:
*Prosecuting actual law breaking*

Screw this “look forward not backward” “we go high” pearl-clutching milquetoastery.

Unfortunately it’s all just in-group signaling. Whether that is vice or virtue depends on the in-group. Either way it’s self reinforcing and quiesces thought, which is precisely our problem today.

Moral courage is what we need, which may involve aspects of signaling, but it’s not quite the same

They’re invertebrates, taking middle of every road - there’s no policy conviction beyond straddling their dwindling base, and @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social may be the worst of them.

He can’t even take a position between being quiet and talking so he does both at the same time

NOBODY KNEW IT BEFORE ME, I FIGURED IT OUT. I SAID: OHH THIS DONALD GUY, HES BAD NEWS, AND HES GOING TO DO VERY BAD THINGS TO OUR COUNTRY. THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE ME BUT I’M A STABLE GENIUS WIZARD… LIKE THIS VOLDEMORT GUY. HES SO MISUNDERSTOOD!! AND I SAID ME TOO, ITS SO TRUE. HELLO NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?

As a people, we have much more in common than not, and it’s our responsibility to reject charlatans of *every stripe* who profess to have our interests at heart, yet hold a finger on the scale for themselves

This is on us - all of us
and it’s on us to right the ship

A robust polity focuses not on enshrining canonical thought and kneecapping dissent but rather on discourse:

Disagreeing agreeably, and tolerance, excepting the intolerant
August 17, 2025 at 7:19 PM
Dems are vastly more constrained by their willful fecklessness than their present seat count.

The ostensible “reasonableness” of centrism is in my view ultimately a sham - a velvet authoritarianism Trojan horse, rationalized to comfort the comfortable and empower in the powerful

Even if it’s not malicious compliance, the fact that theres no clear objective, and thus the administration needs to provide specifics is going to tend to bias things toward inaction

…and in turn loss of face for the admin, which is critical to deciding which way this tips

Unfortunately, avoiding the Cool Zone for too long is cringe.

So get that drip and go CLAP, Gav

Seems like a pretty weak argument to make under an RCV election

And then there’s the age and character of the man. Though quite similar in terms of narcissistic overconfidence to the man with the tiny mustache, there is nonetheless a huge difference in stamina

Maybe this is just copium, but for all our problems, I feel like the character of the US is pretty different than Weimar.

The sheer geography for that matter. Plus the internet, economic ties, etc
June 10, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Due-process for all would be a lot better for the country than what typically happens in the history books, that’s for sure.

But you can’t really predict the behavior of crowds - and the admin sure seems to want to turn up the temperature in a hurry

Will be amusing when AI ends up creating *more* jobs overall due to slop cleanup
June 9, 2025 at 10:19 PM
And they’ll have a real big surprised-Pikachu face when they get what all authoritarians get.

They do seem to be speed-running it though

Quite courageous and professional for him to disable replies after he got ratioed for his profoundly idiotic take

Is it just him that has brain worms? Or are there others on @theatlantic.com staff?
June 8, 2025 at 4:12 AM
Not sure when, and not sure how, but if history is any guide, it’s probably going to go very poorly for him sooner or later.

Kinds of wild how fascists universally seem to think they’ll be the first ones in history to safely remain on top.

Narcissism is a hell of a drug
