I'm a fan of how massive some of them are (this one's in Kōtō)

Already erased last year's gains. Everybody who voted for 2019 prices again might just get them!

In MAGA fashion he'll be selling these to raise funds within a week

I'm fucking losing it. There's a nazi-run deep state illegally dismantling our government and their logo is this fucking AI slop mascot that belongs in a children's cartoon. What the fuck is going on!!!

Not so minor nitpick: the old cars are 15ft longer and there's less of them per train, so you can't directly compare seat counts per car (it has to be per-train, so 300 vs 560 is 53% as many, not 42%)

The takeout vs cooking discourse is complete brainrot but this one commenter misunderstanding opportunity cost and saying to "double it" put me over the edge

Met up with some amazing friends and got to be in the first car tolled tonight 🥳

I've discovered vintage Danish lamps from the 70s/80s and I'm obsessed. They were cooking!

Thought I would leave NYC behind and visit spacious California for vacation but these hotel rooms so far are just reminding me of chopped up flex apartments 😭

What are your thoughts on the lost interurban lines? I don't imagine they were very fast or suited for modern commuting patterns but dang if having more regional interconnectivity doesn't sound good right now

I once bricked a Viking stove by running the self cleaning cycle and it cost $600 to fix

The outer boroughs after we finally get rid of parking minimums the next time around

Once in a while I google the A318 to remind myself of how silly it is

For the smart-lighting addicts such as myself, I've confirmed that a Phillips Hue candelabra bulb with an E26 to E12 adapter fits inside the OnlyNY MTA Lamp. (I wanted to be able to dim it)

I had to buy a 4pack of adapters so if anyone around NYC would like one, lmk.

We love low-emissivity windows!

A thermal camera pointed at a sheet of glass with different coatings demonstrates how a low-e window reflects more heat energy back outside instead of letting it in (resulting in the clearer picture here).

Many such coatings are tin oxide!

At first glance I thought the Buffalo Metro was in an exclusive downtown right-of-way but then @vishnu.red pointed out the no U-turn sign isn't for the trains 😵‍💫

Had a lovely day visiting Scranton. Steamtown and the Electric Trolley Museum both exceeded expectations!

Can't wait for Amtrak to come here 😈

Never forget what they took from you (foamer edition)

To wrap up, go with a wicking humidifier unless you're willing to source pure water for ultrasonic. Even the cheaper models work well, they just will be harder to clean or run louder.

An honorable mention goes to the carepod, easiest-to-clean humidifier I've seen by a mile but it is ultrasonic.
November 11, 2024 at 5:49 PM
The only issue is the price—Venta is the main brand that makes them and the Germans sure charge a lot. Smartmi makes cheaper ones but the reviews are middling and the 240 mL/h rate is low.

But it's good to see another company have a go at it, hopefully more models come out eventually.

A big console humidifier is also an option and would be good for thousands of square feet, but cleaning those seems like a hassle especially in an apartment.

A very niche design of evaporative humidifier that avoids wicks is the rotating disc kind, which evaporates water off discs instead of paper
November 11, 2024 at 5:49 PM
The next category is evaporative "wick" humidifiers that evaporate water off a paper wick. These don't have the air quality problem but the evaporation isn't visible and buying replacement wicks gets old (harder water = more replacement).

The large water basins also require more frequent cleaning.

I've been on a yearslong humidifier research binge and I finally feel ready to break everything down. There's surprisingly a lot of nuance I'll share along with some recs.

The most popular type are "cool mist" ultrasonic humidifiers. They come in all shapes and sizes but have a catch...

Not only is Metra's newly-unveiled Veteran's Day locomotive ugly as sin, they apparently used silhouettes of a Russian tank and ship 💀
