This morning, I returned from a two-week vacation and to beat the post-vacation blues (and the jet-lag), I ordered some aquarium plants to be delivered today to convert my non-planted tank.

I also found a Platy fry hiding out near my ammonia alarm

I was skeptical at first, but a UV-C clarifier makes a world of difference. The bacterial bloom soon turned into an algae bloom, which transformed the tank into pea soup. The clarifier cleared it up in a couple of days and the tank is looking crystal clear (the picture doesn’t do it justice).

The bacterial bloom has been replaced by an algae bloom … but the ammonia levels are going in the right direction!

A miserable day for hay fever sufferers, myself included. I’m particularly sensitive to tree pollen 🤧

Very much enjoying *getting paid*, albeit a small amount, to charge my car today thanks to #OctopusAgile . It’s nice to see wind and solar doing the heavy lifting 💨☀️

My week started well with the acceptance of a paper for publication on Monday. I was very pleased (& surprised) to see the accepted version already online with New J. Phys. ( https://doi.org/10.1088/1367-2630/adaf50 ).

The paper, with colleagues from Exeter, looks at waves on flexural lattices
