The honest voucher guys will actually admit this. But their answer is new schemes will be better.

All they mean:

1) With wealthier families getting vouchers, private schools choosing their kids will be better;

2) Less data/reporting in new bills, so worst results kept hidden.
~75% voucher kids were already in private school anyway.

The other 25% suffer horrific results after transfer.

The last 4 statewide studies found learning loss similar to Katrina and COVID impacts.

Why? Sub-prime & pop-ups the only schools available to most voucher transfers.

It’ll be an interesting few months. Sadly, DeWine says the right words, but he’s an empty suit. Huffman is an evil warrior.

The two most persistent falsehoods peddled in education policy are:

1) that vouchers = “school choice” and improve student results

2) that investing in public schools has no impact

Both have 10+ years of data now consistently showing otherwise.

Bad news for all those past voucher lobby memos pointing to Florida NAEP as a reason other states need Florida-style vouchers.
BREAKING: Florida reading, math scores fall to lowest mark in more than 20 years on nation's report card.

The achievement gap and the % of 8th graders reading below a “basic” level was the lowest in the test’s history.

My latest for the Orlando Sentinel:
Florida reading, math scores fall to lowest mark in more than 20 years on nation’s report card
The state’s 8th-grade reading score was below the national average for the first time since 2015, and its 8th-grade math score was the lowest in 20 years.

“When you test things, whether in a lab, or in public policy, you see how it goes, and then you make adjustments. A lot of bad stuff happened since the pilot voucher phase, and some of us adjusted, and some of us didn’t.”

What does ‘fair, responsible, transparent, accountable’ mean in private school choice?
Gov. Brad Little gave lawmakers four targets to win his support for private education subsidies. Here’s what those could look like in practice.
