This is such a lovely read. It made me cry.
“I should think the people of Sheffield have had enough listening about me.”

Kathleen Roberts, the last of Sheffield’s Women of Steel, has died, aged 103.

Crone Club’s Justine Gaubert picks out eight lessons in life and growing older from one of the last of a generation to whom we all owe so much.

Ever since we started covering Andrew Milne, the solicitor who's been sending letters asking Sheffield leaseholders for thousands of pounds, we've been building up a list of questions.

Unfortunately, he's not been keen to answer them. So we eventually tracked him down to a Costa in east London.

A host of international bidders are currently eyeing up Sheffield Wednesday, but some local businessman are keen to get in on the action as well.

Today we cover the Sheffield lads looking to get in with the new regime — or even put an offer in themselves 👀

We've been asking Andrew Milne about his threatening letters for weeks. After he stopped responding to e-mails, we visited several of his properties, but he wouldn't come to the door.

But yesterday we finally tracked him down - to a Costa in east London 👇

In February 2013, a British man died while visiting a friend in the US state of Arizona.

For the next 12 years he was unidentified — known only as ‘Maricopa County John Doe 2013’.

This year, thanks to a team of staff and students at Sheffield Hallam University, his family finally have closure.
A dead man’s identity remained a mystery for 12 years. A team from Hallam cracked the case

Over four gruelling days last week, medics were grilled on whether they had done enough to keep 12-year-old Mia Lucas safe.

To her mother Chloe, the answer was obvious.

“We reached out for help during the most vulnerable time in Mia’s life,” she said. “But she didn’t get the help she needed.”

This is such a brilliant campaign by The Mill.

Their six pledges will help make Manchester a better place, but they need an extra 1,000 members by 10 December to make it happen.

Whether you're a Mancunian or not, you'll get tons of brilliant journalism, and you'll also be supporting a great cause.
These are our six campaign pledges - the things we will do next year if we manage to add 1,000 new members. They were chosen by our readers because they’re things we believe will make Manchester better.

A solicitor, Andrew Milne has been bullying leaseholders across Sheffield into paying him extraordinary sums, with no legal basis.

Why hasn't the SRA stopped him? Because he's conducted an extraordinary campaign against the SRA. 180 complaints. Two judicial reviews.

Absolutely brilliant idea from my colleagues at The Mill 👏

If they add 1,000 new members over the next few weeks, they’ll fulfil six pledges to the city.

Best of all? The offer is pay what you want for the first two months!

There’s also a lovely new print edition which I need to get my hands on 🗞️

This thread collating the Sheffield Tribune’s brilliant investigation into the spivvy lawyer threatening Yorkshire leaseholders into handing over cash is worth reading before the story goes national.
Excellent and courageous investigative journalism.
The fact that it is (apparently) legal to do this to people is utterly disgusting.
“It broke my heart, that was my savings towards a new car,” one woman who paid Milne tens of thousands of pounds told us. “He has just wiped me out.”

Who is Andrew Milne - the solicitor sending "very aggressive" letters to Sheffield homeowners?

Jaw-dropping update about our leasehold investigation detailing the lengths to which my colleague @djstimms.bsky.social has gone to track down Andrew Milne.

Particularly enjoyed the fact that colleagues from Liverpool and London were also involved. Mill Media is now more than the sum of its parts.
Horrified, Becky read Milne’s words. “I accordingly am entitled to vacant possession of the property”, he asserted. “I am writing to give you 7 days notice that I will have a locksmith and agent attend to recover possession for me and change the locks”.
