*from underneath the floorboards* ackshually it’s a diaeresis, an umlaut marks when a vowel sound is shifted up/forward, a diaeresis marks that a pair of vowels isn’t a dipthong, they look identical but they’re actually two different sy—*gunshot sound*
we need the umlaut in reënter otherwise people will read it as reenter which is probably nto a word

I 100% agree and would add that if you are hosting a holiday event and you do NOT have something festive, creative and delicious for your guests to drink without alcohol in it, you are actually an asshole
