Agreed. It can be both.
I know people love the *distraction* narrative with Trump, particularly around Epstein.
However, it's worth noting that he tested this mix of Guard and federal forces on the DC streets in 2020.
This idea of seizing control of the district is something he's been fixated on before.

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

So basically the protests were peaceful except that two competing cop departments accidentally went to war with each other
Many of the LA Sheriffs didn't have their gas masks on yet so the Sheriffs got gassed by LAPD
LAPD was on the radio crying about getting shot by rubber bullets by the sheriffs, so I'd say fair trade
