A normal reaction to today's news, dear Nancy, would be to express shock and horror at the significant possibility that the president of the United States is a child molester.

Frankenstein was so explication- heavy. No action could come without an English Literature 101’s amount of monologue and symbolism that could be seen from space. It was so beautifully lit and costumed and all of that but oh my god how much tearful explaining does one exhausted monster have to do

Turns out the Golden Age of MAGA was an Epstein cover-up, 600,000 Chinese students, H1-B jobs for Indians, massive deficits, pardons for fraudsters & drug traffickers, blowing up boats, 50 year mortgages, tariffs on everything, higher prices, a ballroom, & al-Qaeda in the Oval.

The thing is, the list of men connected with Epstein is not infinite - it's the same 20 or so names over and over. Wexner, Clinton, Trump, Dershowitz, Andrew... no one (even on the fringe right) has ever tied Biden, Bush, or Obama to Epstein. It's a limited group, and their names are already known.

A good tar-and-feathering would wipe that smirk right off Kevin Hassett's smug face. Can we get "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" guy to teach this guy the economics of an ass whipping?
COLLINS: When Trump says grocery prices are down, what numbers is he basing that off given it's not true?

HASSETT: Inflation is down

C: But grocery prices are up

H: Not everything. Egg prices are down. Why haven't you covered egg prices?

C: We certainly have. But grocery prices are up about 1.4%

Canada has just lost measles elimination status. The U.S. will undoubtedly follow shortly.

Elimination means that there is no continuous spreading of measles within the country for a year or longer.

Canada and the U.S. have blown it, and it’s largely the fault of the anti-vaccination movement.

Canada has lost its measles elimination status after nearly three decades due to its failure to curb a year-long outbreak, the country's public health agency said on Monday.

Necessary to show that Republicans were willing to let people go hungry and never cared about reopening the government.
You're right. It makes much more sense to make them suffer for forty days before loudly folding, making the whole exercise pointless.

I get the question why do it if it was doomed to fail... After sleeping on it I think pulling plug was right call.

I don’t think there was a viable path to get R’s to agree to anything, and ultimately this subsidy decision was made in Nov of ‘24 by the American people.

"A couple million people should just go without paychecks for however long it takes until either the Republican party decides it no longer hates the ACA or the 120th Congress is sworn" is not a viable or serious theory of victory, as more than a couple of us pointed out in Sept
Then why do the shutdown at all? What did it accomplish? The Democrats knew going into the shutdown that it would mean federal workers eat shit indefinitely - Republicans even cited it as a reason Democrats would break: and they were right!
Not that there's a bunch of us, but I think a contingent of feds on here have been incentivized to just block 50% of the users here tonight, because man "you should eat shit indefinitely for undetermined reasons so I can poast about The Revolution" is a taek I guess, but not one I want to see

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

If you believe that Dem leadership is fighting for you, ask them what they did when the Supreme Court took away the human rights of 50% of the nation, when two thirds of Americans disagreed with the Court’s decision, and we had the presidency. More than 3 years later. Ask how they’ve fought.

if they don't fix Obamacare credits and/or fuck it by replacing it with HSAs, next year is going to be uhhhh a healthcare election
I still kinda think it’s going to be D+12 in a year because the orange god king is determined to to be a blansas sized political suicide bomber

The message for Democrats is, "Republicans held food for kids hostage so they could make sure your healthcare costs skyrocket."
Angry as I am with Hassan, Shaheen, et al., the GOP is trying to deny SNAP payments to recipients and to block states' efforts to pay them. They are literally determined to starve the people they see as undeserving.
I've made my position very clear tonight that I think the healthcare fight is too important to leave to a "maybe" future vote but this is absolutely right.

And it's why blame MUST be placed first and foremost on the GOP and their merciless hostage-taking.

This strategy mystifies me. The best result Dems can hope for is that voters remember that Trump's GOP budget cost them big. Will voters punish Republicans if Dems protect the ACA?
A future vote on the ACA tax credits is not enough.

The American people about to lose their health care need results, not votes.
