At least 400 people are reported to have been killed. This is devastating for people living in Gaza for whom the last two months had offered a fragile reprieve. They need humanitarian aid, not death from the skies. It is also terrible news for the families of Israeli hostages who see yet again that the far-right Israeli government has abandoned their loved ones. This unilateral breach of the ceasefire must have consequences for EU-Israel relations. It must be on the agenda of this week's European Council. EU leaders must take action and call for a return to the ceasefire without delay.
