DC laws should not be written by people who don't know how DC actually works.
The House member who wants to let Trump appoint D.C.'s attorney general (currently elected by residents) mistakenly says it was the city's AG who didn't prosecute two-thirds of arrests in D.C. That was actually the U.S. Attorney for D.C. – who *is* appointed by the president.

I maxed out my credit card, emptied my savings account, and took out a loan to move from Alabama to Bethesda, MD. I don’t even qualify for unemployment since I’ve only worked at NIH for a month. I will be financially and medically devastated.

Seeking suggestions for anywhere that’s hiring!!
Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭

It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.

For all federal employees:

Before you are locked out of your systems, ensure you have copies of unclassified performance appraisals, awards & other relevant personnel docs.

If you have access to your office, grab your more important personal items sooner rather than later.

I hate to do, "Why isn't this being covered???" but it's genuinely concerning that major parts of the federal government are being shut down, and it is not dominating news coverage.

ABC led World News with 5 minutes of "Immigration Crackdown."

The destruction of the administrative state continues. This is unilateral disarmament. Who needs diplomacy when you’ve got MAGA ideology? Putin and Xi must be over the moon.

Things going south pretty fast now…. Federal grants stopped, PEPFAR frozen (global AIDS program), comms blackout from US health agencies, TB outbreak in Kansas, crippling WH actions against USAID, CDC to stop collab with WHO, etc., etc. So
much winning 😱 at
home and abroad.

In a not too distant future people will be asking who and what pushed Colombia into China’s arms. Looking like another self-inflicted wound from our side. Thank God there was a robust policy discussion beforehand in our national security community (sarcasm alert)

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

In November, one of my son’s daycare teachers was struck by a driver of a truck as she crossed the street. The driver didn’t stop at the 🛑.

Perhaps more infuriatingly, the city of Hyattsville had recently re-designed the intersection & identified the need for a crosswalk but didn’t install one. 🧵

NEW: My staff just got ahold of this memo from House Budget Committee Republicans. It's lengthy and hard to digest but it tells us exactly how Republicans plan to sell out the American people for another round of tax cuts to the rich. We're breaking down the highlights as we go:

The 702,250 residents of DC pay the highest federal taxes, fight in wars, and die for their country.

It is long past time for us to have the same representation that Americans in every other state have.

Thank you Congresswoman Norton for continuing to lead our fight for #DCStatehood.
