Remember how my lilies bloomed in the middle of spring this year? Now it’s time for some cleanup, but I’m being careful not to pull out the bulbs, so they can grow back next year. Here’s how I do it:

I spent the day tidying up my garden as fall’s cooler temperatures set in. 🌿🍂 I try to create as little waste as possible, collecting all the dried stems, leaves and roots to feed our compost bins.

We just had a freeze wave here in Wichita and I had to act fast to ensure I can still do one last round of harvesting before the season ends. ❄ 🍅

How do you protect your garden from cold snaps and frost?

While my kids enjoy their fluffy, sweet Saturday-morning pancakes, I get my own little joy—tossing the leftover crumbs straight into the compost bin! From my toddler’s highchair tray to the kitchen compost bin it goes. 🥞

Not all plastic bags belong in the trash! 🌱 Many, like this brown sugar bag, can actually be recycled. But instead of tossing them in your curbside recycling, return them to the store. Look for the recyclable symbol on the packaging to be sure! ♻️ #recyclingplastic #recyclingtips #sustainableliving

Before tossing a jar that once held something sticky into the recycling bin, it's recommended to give it a good rinse to improve material recovery.
But cleaning sticky jars can be a real challenge. 🥜🍫
Here’s my simple trick — all you need is hot water and a little shaking power… ♻️💪

I know… who drinks coffee at 6 PM, right?! ☕️ But sometimes you just need a little extra boost in the middle of the day. So here I am, brewing a cup—and giving my compost bin some quality coffee grounds at the same time!

I’ve lost count of how many times a day I scoop up food dropped by my kids 😅. Most of it—including this banana peel—gets a second life in my compost! 🍌🌱

Here’s my son proving that recycling isn’t just for adults! 🌱
Separating what goes where takes only a few seconds, but it makes a big difference for the planet. ♻️

Just had to share how easy it is to empty the Reencle system: all you need is a shovel (or your hands!) and a pail—plus a little help from your toddler to give it a gentle tap! 😄 The Reencle turns scraps into compost that’s nearly ready to use. Watch each step:

A mysterious trail of toilet paper appeared in the house this morning, and I already have one prime suspect... 🕵️‍♀️
It can’t be rolled back up or reused, but at least it’ll have a noble ending—in the compost bin! 🌱

My kids have been really curious about how to recycle or compost the food containers they use throughout the day. So here I am, teaching my son how to properly dispose of yogurt cups that are recyclable. ♻️

A few weeks ago, I shared this simple—but insanely effective—fruit fly trap I made: a glass jar, a few holes in the lid, some vinegar and honey 🪰
Well, I’m happy to report that since putting it into action, this trap has been literally KILLING it! 💥

Working in the garden is always rewarding — growing healthy, pesticide-free food is great, but spending time outside with my kids (and dogs!) teaching them to care for our plants, animals, and planet? That’s priceless. 🌿❄️ #gardeningwithkids #familyworkingtogether

Peppermint, spearmint, chocolate mint… I grew all kinds of this fragrant plant in my garden over the summer. Now it’s time to trim them and store the leaves. It’s a lot of work, but I’m counting on my toddler’s help! 😝

Juiced a bunch of apples or chopped a mountain of veggies? Those peels, seeds and stems don’t belong in the trash or garbage disposal — let them feed your compost! (Mine are happily composting in the Reencle system) 🍎🍏 #reencle #foodscraps #composteverything #applejuice #applesauce

This year’s backyard harvest was amazing—plenty of apples!🍎 We filled a bag, crushed them all (including the cores!) and made some delicious juice and apple sauce.
The leftover scraps go straight to compost, so nothing goes to waste.

Here’s a handy tip for removing thick, dead plants: cut them at the base, leave the roots, and come back a few days later. The plant remnants dry out faster, making them much easier to pull.
Here I am removing my sunflower roots! 🌻💪
