I'm not sure what's going on with Anthropic's Claude, but I've been hitting usage limits super fast lately. I'm already paying for Pro, and the interruption to my workflow for hours waiting for a reset doesn't work for me. It's a forcing function to stop me from using Claude to begin with.

Traveling home to Sacramento from Boston today. My original flight had its Denver-Sacramento leg canceled, so now I’m headed through Chicago with a 3.5 hour layover. So begins my 14-hour journey home. 😂

Generative AI feels like someone heard the bit about one million monkeys typing ten hours a day and thought, "what if it was like 200 billion monkeys powered by dead dinosaurs and venture capital," and then it sorta did some interesting stuff and everyone forgot about what as under the hood...

I wore my hacker t-shirt all day today but only hacked like one thing. Starting to think it doesn’t work.

This is the kind of art project I am here for.
Update on my research project where I gave an LLM thousands of dollars to trade options with: this week we’re investing in Nvidia “because AI” and this month we’re betting against Nvidia because the Trump/Biden campaign rhetoric may increase tensions with China. Both trades look promising 😃

My 13yo son listens to (amongst loads of other artists) Buddy Guy, SRV, Led Zepplin, B.B., and now Nas (via th Hamilton Mix Tape). You are welcome, inhabitants of Earth. I made you a good one.

Now it's Claude's turn. I'm comparing two values in a conditional (is this smaller than that) and Claude is calling me out for a mathematical error in a ≤ b because it prefers b ≥ a. Come on, ya'll. I've known since 3rd grade that the alligator (>) wants to eat the bigger value.

Based on their marketing, if there is *anything* an LLM should be reliable at it's simple math. But this morning ChatGPT tried to convince me of mysterious "edge cases" in simple arithmetic that make basic truths not true.

So, like, LLMs just predict the most likely thing that some rando on the Internet would say given a prompt? … and that’s a good thing?

Saw this posted on a fairly new gas pump this morning. Is sparking cell phones a thing? Exploding batteries, sure, but like, just casually dropping sparks? And if so, why does turning it off help?

I have been trying to leave Hawaii for a week, and I can’t seem to get away. There are worse places to be stuck, but I sure wouldn’t mind getting home eventually. 🧵

It’s been a few years since I stood up a new Java. Starting the clock on new a containerized GraalVM Spring Boot project with Gradle.

VS Code surprised me today. It’s almost 10 years old, and I’ve been all but ignoring it. I’ve used a lot of IDEs and editors over the past 15+ years. From editors like Notepad++ and Sublime Text to platform IDEs like Xcode and Android Studio to the JetBrains suite (which I pay for). 🧵

Anything I have to say is simply not worthy of “first post.” So screw it.
