Started in 1932, almost 400 impoverish black men were recruited for a study on syphilis, but were lied to and given placebos so white doctors could study the disease’s progress

Today’s Black History Highlight: Frederick McKinley Jones, the father of Refrigeration. Born May 1893, died Feb 1961, he was a self-taught Electrical Engineer who invented a wide range of items from refrigerated trucks used in WWII to sound equipment for the film industry.

Today’s Black History Highlight: Ruth Ella Moore, the first black woman to earn a PhD and the first black woman to join the American Society of Microbiology (1933 and 1940, respectively). Born May 1903, died July 1994, her work on bacteria would be critical in several human diseases.

Today’s Black History Highlight: Jerry Lawson, the Father of the Gaming Console! Jerry was one of the first to use microprocessors in video game development, and is responsible for developing the cartridge-based video game systems that would give us Ataris, Nintendos, Segas, etc.

We might be facing a full coupe in this country, but I’m still going to post for Black History. Mary Jackson, NASA’s first black female aerospace engineer (1958) who would later become a manager for Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Specialist and helped women and POC build careers at NASA.

Today’s Black History Highlight: George Washington Carver, who was so much more than the inventor of peanut butter (which is all I was ever told growing up). He was one of the most important agricultural scientists of the 20th century who pioneered renewable farming practices to help black farmers.
