Never cool. Unironic soccer mom. Cat person. Book & Video Game Nerd. Anti-nationalist (even as 🇨🇦's southern meth lab neighbour implodes), anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, and anti-religion. Sometimes I curse, a lot. Waiting for a Star Trek future.
Post a book you love from the 80s. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

2/5 - I love unreliable narrators, it is one of my favourite genres but this book was a mess. I guessed the "twist" almost from the beginning and some of it was just laughingly and insultingly implausible. It is rare to feel actually intellectually insulted by a book.

No, I 100% agree that computer RPGs these days have too much handholding. I, too, yearn for the days of being able to spend hours crafting my perfect build from hundreds of available options, only to discover that it mathematically cannot survive the mandatory rat fight portion of the first dungeon.

Imagine the hole in Alberta’s budget when the price & demand for oil is in long-term decline in 2030s as a result of the energy transition and increased demand for clean energy. Not nostalgia for the past, it’s about winning the future. Just economics, folks.
Alberta faces $6.4-billion deficit as falling oil prices and trade troubles take toll
This year’s budget represents a massive multibillion-dollar swing from an $8.3-billion surplus last year

This is simply another way to punish low income and unhoused people. To say nothing that there is no "cost" except for whatever private fees the registries inflict.

The UCP hates those who are not wealthy.

3.75/5 - parts of this were beautifully written and parts were self-indulgent and overweening. The poetry at the end was beautiful and the relationship as described between Patti and Robert was very sweet, if codependent. The name dropping was a little much, but fascinating.

Hey folks – this is Nate.
Nate is a #UCP MLA for #Lethbridge East.
Nate, for the second time in a month, voted to implement the Notwithstanding Clause.
Even though I heard he disagrees with the NWC's use.
This all sounds rather cowardly.
I'll have something more to say about Nate.
Stay tuned.

I've come to realize in recent times that while I do love a good slab of vinyl, I'm not a vinyl junkie, I'm a song junkie. I'll take it on any format I can get it.

3.25/5 - I don't shy away from ugly topics and I love books that make me uncomfortable and emotional. This book was well-written but I had issues with the romanticization of the subject matter. This was not a love story, despite the author obviously wanting it to be.

🧵 In 1 week, the #UCP & Premier Danielle Smith (and #Lethbridge East MLA Nathan Neudorf), have invoked the NWC to end the teachers' strike & Charter Rights, fired the Auditor General investigating UCP corruption & cut $$ to Elections Alberta as recall petitions start circulating. 👇 1/5

4/5 - beautiful writing and the first half of the book was a 5 star read. I generally don't like blatant foreshadowing (ie ...and that would be the last time she saw her for five years...) and I found the break to be contrived and not overly realistic. Mowed through it.

5/5 - this has been on my TBR for awhile. Maggie O'Farrell is a fantastic writer, and this is her masterpiece. A lyrical, quiet book on love and grief. It was nominally about Shakespeare but could have been about any family, and I loved that it was told in present tense.
