If a game goes into over time in the regular season, they play one 5 minute overtime and then a shootout. At the end of regular season you have the play offs for the Stanley Cup! ( Not the ones people drink from)

Uh so hockey is played in three periods of 20 minutes each! You gotta get the puck in the net. It's five players plus a goalie! You can pull the goalie out of the net to have a sixth player on the ice but this is usually only done in the last few minutes of the game.
