Here's the NIH's proposed budget - from $48 billion to $27 billion. NIAID, current ~$7 billion cut to ~$4.2 billion.

The proposed 15% cap on indirect costs remains.

Again, these budgets are passed, and our leadership in science, technology, and innovation is gone.

I’m not so cheerful, because I believe strongly that pathogen research should be based on public health need & evidence-based risk-benefit assessments. Experimental research can’t be replaced with AI & it needs to continue safely & securely. But this EO isn’t about that.

Had a conversation with a MAGA supporter who didn't know when the news reports Trump is freezing federal grants to Universities, they mean scientific research. Grants = Scientific Research! Can we please make that more clear to people! #biosky #sciencesky #RNAsky

People don't want factory jobs; They want the LABOR UNION protections, salary, benefits, insurance, safety, and shared profits that we unknowingly yet nostalgically & exclusively associate with manufacturing.

No reason that service and information economy jobs can't be unionized at 1960s levels.

In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

We need to organize--let’s help each other.

NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond.

I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations.

Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

Of the 4000 researchers at NIH, only 20% are tenured. They’re going to fire all the rest as their contracts come up for renewal, absolutely decimating research at the NIH. This is catastrophic, not just for Americans, but for the whole world.
