The Prisoner was a gem, and it should have been allowed to stay in its own pocket
Gonna double down on this: I don't care how convoluted the answer was, there shouldn't have been one. If you really want to know what The Prisoner is about, just watch Fall Out so Patrick McGoohan can make fun of you for questioning him.
I know this isn't part of the wave of recent works you're talking about but I will never not be mad at the 2009 remake of The Prisoner for explaining what the Village was.
