Hi, I’m David Plaxco. On this account, I share aesthetic solution states of n-layer Rubik's cubes. Otherwise, I teach math at UGA, research undergraduate mathematics education, and try to make my experiences here on earth more meaningful.

Here are four ways I’ve found to solve an nxnxn cube to embed a trefoil knot. Five layers is the smallest cube I’ve been able to put this knot on. On a 9cube, I’ve found solutions that use 2 colors of thread, 2 faces, and a solution that leaves the reverse side solved as solid colors.
I found this knot pattern this week and generated a planar embedding by first using stereographic projection onto the disk, tracing, and tweaking—all in PowerPoint and Photoshop. I really enjoy this process as it allows me to experience the structure of the knot throughout the very slow process. 😊

Okay... Now that I'm reading the paper more closely, I REALLY want to see which of these knots are Rubik's cube-able! 😂

Thanks @graveolens.bsky.social for tagging me!
Very cool! I was gifted a set of knot dice within the past few years and the tile set the authors use remind me of those.

This weekend would be a great time to submit your art for the exhibition to be held at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. Take advantage of this opportunity to share your work with over 5000 attendees this January in Washington, DC. You’ll need to submit by the 15th at gallery.bridgesmathart.org.

You shouldn't have to travel for hours to get maternity care, but Republican Medicaid cuts might mean you have to.

It's shameful that a party that claims to be pro-family is cutting maternity care.

Nory Sontay Ramos was a thriving high school student in L.A. until she and her mom were deported by the Trump administration in July. For @msnbc.com, we visited her in Guatemala as she tries to graduate remotely while hiding from the same gang they fled years ago. www.msnbc.com/msnbc/news/n...

Nory and her mother were following the rules. But as MSNBC reports from L.A. and Guatemala, U.S. officials deported them anyway — throwing their futures into jeopardy.

Teenage cuber, Andrey Maslov, was scheduled to speak at Bridges about making two-sided Rubik's Cube mosaics (the same image on both sides, with different colors). He found out at the last moment that he was unable to attend. So, he posted his talk on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uap0...

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Definitions in math are not inevitable, but rather are choices people have made. We could make different choices if we thought it would be useful.

Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

Here are all 54 distinct knots/links that Tanya and I have identified in our exploration of a specific class of knots on 9-layer Rubik's cubes. We have also determined that this list contains no redundancies & that any of the 4096 patterns that we began with is equivalent to one of these 54 knots.

I've been investigating a class of knots with Tatyana Khodorovskiy. We began with 4,096 initial patterns on a 9-layer cube and have reduced this set to identify 54 distinct knots in this class. You can read more about it in my Bridges paper from last year, but we're currently writing up the results!

I guess, I should start a starter pack 😁

Younger folks around here might shocked to learn that once upon a time Bill Clinton let a few campaign donors have a sleepover at the White House & the national media spent months treating it as the greatest scandal in the history of the republic
President Trump is quite literally selling seats to a private dinner and White House tours to foreign nationals for $4 million+ a piece.

Much of the money goes into his own pocket.

This is corruption to the highest degree.
