On January 28th, AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC) and other agencies and nonprofits throughout Illinois were blocked without notice from accessing federal housing funding that pays for rents and services for people living with HIV and with lived experience of homelessness. Without federal HIV housing and care programs like Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) and Ryan White, people will lose their homes and access to HIV care, causing crisis systems to see increased strain and incur greater costs as people become forced to rely on emergency medical services.
