Microbiologist researching anti-infectives, Prof at University of Colorado, Editor in Chief of #MMBR (Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews), an American Society of Microbiology ‪(ASM‬; ‪@asm.org‬).
I've grown increasingly upset about ASM's actions and the way this situation may have unfolded. Whose idea was this? Was there a meeting with ASM leadership and they flagged webpages to be taken down? Did they vote on this? Was this done unilaterally by a single person?

If you’ve been directly impacted by a pause or cancellation of an NIH study session, we @forbes.com would like to talk to you
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Thank you, Vaughn.
The importance of leadership at ASM grows by the minute.
We are lucky to have Michele Swanson as our current President, Alex McAdam @amcadamclinmicro.bsky.social
as President Elect, and you on board for July 2026.
@asm.org
I'm incredibly honored by this opportunity to serve as President-Elect of @asm.org starting this summer. Looking forward to working with the Board, ASM leadership ,and staff to help advance the microbial sciences. I'm also glad to share my Vision statement, please join us!

NPPB bound in the channel of TolC, below, prevents export of, among other things, the RtxA1 toxin, a virulence factor that rapidly kills host cells.

#MicrobiologyMonday: The "robustness" of enterococci is tied to biofilm formation. The ability to study the genetic underpinnings of biofilms formed by enterococci & other bacteria has grown, which improves understanding of their form & function. No "A" or "B" for effort, but a "C" for effort is ok.
A very interesting article - the Spring semester begins in a few weeks and I'm looking forward to getting started with a new batch of students. Maybe a brief comment is in order.

Gene expression from the pLS20 conjugative plasmid is controlled by a mechanosensing signal transduction pathway responsive to flagella rotation, a strategy that may allow dissemination of the plasmid to remote destinations and infiltration of new niches.
Flagellar rotation facilitates the transfer of a bacterial conjugative plasmid

Aurodox is a Streptomyces metabolite (linear polyketide) that interferes with Gram-negative bacterial infections of host cells. Roe et al. show Aurodox could work by reducing transcription across phylogenetically distinct Type Three Secretion Systems in E. coli, Salmonella, Yersinia and Vibrio spp.
New paper from the group. Very proud to share our recent work for the first time here on Bluesky- give me 50 likes and it’s a permanent move!🤣.

I am taking care of our neighbor's cat for the holiday. Their door lock has been hard to open and wouldn't budge this morning. I remembered our mechanical engineer daughter's rules:

If it is moving and is not supposed to: Duct tape
If is supposed to move and isn't: WD40

Problem solved: Cat fed.
