Here’s a small preview of a comic that I’m working on for We Are Los Angeles, a middle-grade anthology made up of 20+ stories all created by Los Angeles writers and artists, in support of local wildfire relief!

Panel 1: My husband rushes into the bathroom, asking, "What happened???" Panel 2: I look at him, dripping while covered in scratches an cat fur. I say, "I forgot to put another sweater on as armor..." "Oh boy..." he responds. Panel 3 caption: Second attempt. Together, my husband and I dunk Moomy into the sink as she screams "oouugghh!!!" I am wearing a sweater this time. Panel 4: We continue to gently clean her while she continues to tearfully scream, "Ooowwwwuu!! Ooouughh!!! Aaauuuggh!!" The water around her turns brown. Panel 5: We dry her off with a towel and she fumes silently. Panel 6: Tired, I open the door and say, "Alright, we're done torturing you, Moomy." She immediately runs out the door, flicking water as she goes. Panel 1: My husband places bandages all over my back as I mutter, "Ow..." Panel 2: I'm asleep in bed while Moomy hides underneath. The caption reads, "4 AM" Panel 3 caption: The next day... I am asleep at my convention booth. A small sign reads, "Please wake me up." Panel 4: Moomy sits on a round cushion with her paws neatly folded. Caption: Moomy fully recovered within a few days. The end!

Panel 1: I'm suddenly startled, and say, "Ah! My hand is wet!" Panel 2: I reach my hand up, which is dripping something brown, and give it a sniff. "It doesn't smell like poop..." Panel 3: Worried, I turn to my husband, saying, "What if she threw up as a reaction to the shot?" He responds, saying, "We'll open her carrier in the tub when we get home and take a look." Panel 4: At home, I slowly place her carrier in the tub. Panel 5: I slowly unzip the carrier, and it makes a slow "ziiip..." as her eyes glance up. Panel 6: Suddenly, Moomy makes a break for it and jumps forward, partially out of the panel, while flinging brown liquid everywhere. I scream, "Nooooooo!! It was poop!" An arrow points to the liquid, indicating that it is a poop and pee mixture. Panel 1: Moomy darts into the closet of the next room over, all while leaving a poop trail. I chase her, angrily yelling, "Moomy!" Panel 2: I snatch her up, yelling, "Gotcha!" Her eyes are wide and her ears are down, and she is still dripping poop from her butt. Panel 3: I run back towards the bathroom, still dripping poop on the floor. My husband, already holding a spray bottle and paper towel, says, "I'll clean the floor." "Thanks, sweetie!" I reply. Panel 4: I turn on the faucet and the sink fills with soapy water. Panel 5: I take off my sweater, saying, "I don't want to get this dirty... I'm gonna wear it tomorrow." Panel 6: I slowly lower Moomy towards the water. She is trembling, her tail is tucked between her legs, and her eyes are huge. Panel 7: Close up on her face, where her eyes are even wider and her mouth is open as she screams, "Oooooughh!!!!" Panel 8: Moomy jumps onto my shoulder and claws at my back while screaming, "Ooouuugh!!" I yell out, "Oww! Ow ow ow"

Panel 2: I sit down with my husband on a couch and glance up at a screen. The caption reads, "There was a screen in the waiting room." Panel 3: Close up of the screen. There are different pets' names with their photos listed on it. Caption: It showed the triage, or the patient sorting process. Moomy was considered a lower priority than most of the other pets, so we waited for a long time. In the center, there is an image of Moomy behind bars. I say off-screen, "Oh my god! Panel 1: My husband jumps forward to grab Moomy, yelling "Hey!!!" She is startled by him. Panel 2: Moomy crouches down and lets out a "Hissss!!!!" Panel 3: Moomy runs out the door, leaving a small cartoon dust cloud behind her. Panel 4: I look down at the bed, which is covered in small yellow stains with a red dot in the center of each. "Oh no..." I say. Panel 5: "I think she has a urinary tract infection..." I continue. There are little arrows indicating that the yellow stains are pee stains and the red dots are blood droplets. Panel 6: I lean out from behind the wall with a concerned expression. "Moomy...?" I call out. Panel 7: We see Moomy tearfully hunched over in her litter box and trembling, struggling to squeeze out a few drops of pee. the ghosts in this game TERRIFIED me 😭😭😭 i literally shut the game off and didn't come back to it for years lmao

the game as a whole had a super uncanny and unsettling vibe to it that i love as an adult though!!
