Having an evening to myself, I decided to watch Godzilla Minus One (2023), after hearing a lot of rave about it. Rate this a solid 5/5. It's THAT good! You can clearly see that a lot of time and effort went into creating the plot, fleshing out the characters and the setting. 1/🧵

Completed Anima Rising by Christopher Moore. Would rate it a 4/5. It's been inspired by Frankenstein and follows Frankenstein's bride, who crosses paths with Klimt, Jung, Schiele, Kokoschka and others who were part of Vienna's genius cluster at the beginning of the 20th century. 1/🧵

After seeing "The Barkley Marathons: the race that eats its young" a couple of years back, I was intrigued by Gary Cantrell / Lazarus "Laz" Lake, but facts about him were pretty facetious and rare. This biography by Jared Beasley delivers. It describes his life, his background 1/🧵

Just finished Corvus, the second entry in Marko Kloos' Frontline: Evolutions series. The gist is: go, get that book and read it! It's very good. Military scifi at the highest level. It's basically a continuation of the original Frontline series, with a new protagonist 1/🧵

F1 (2025)
It's suprisingly good, with Brad Pitt as headliner. I am usually not interested in Formula 1 at all, but enjoyed it anyway. It's sort of a re-imagined "Days of Thunder" (1990). Similar topics, personality clashes & mentorship themes, high stakes racing, rivalry, romance, redemption.

Age verification?
I saw Top Gun in its first run

I was nine. Was able to sneak in despite that (thanks to my older cousin coming along and getting the tickets)

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

Rewatched that for the first time in 30 yrs. Still an utter gem by John Carpenter, with Kurt Russel as All-American hero. Purposely made into a B-movie. Had a brilliant time watching this action movie featuring Chinese black magic and Kung Fu.
