A little bit about me: I'm a UX Lead by day but in my spare time I research family history (my own & other peoples), basically one foot in the present, one foot in the past 😁

The reason why I cry listening to these old songs isn't because I want to return to the past.

It's through music that I get to bear witness to all my past selves. I can see the girl and woman I used to be. She doesn't know I'm there.

I know my future self is here, right now, watching these tears.

He is not just appeasing Putin, he is aligned with him. And every single client journalist, political shill & public/online cheerleader on both sides of the Atlantic is too. Against Zelensky. Against Ukraine. Against freedom. Against the most basic tenets of decency.

You know what’s important? History teachers. My Dad was a history teacher. I think his work was vital for a healthy society.

Twin Peaks was this massive thing when I was a kid & I remember watching, not necessarily understanding, but scenes were still burned into my brain. Rewatched as an adult & was blown away. David Lynch was a creative genius #RIPDavidLynch

My head hurts reading the Israeli interpretations of Irish history. It’s disturbing to see so much pseudohistory deployed in order to [as our president noted] declare everyone Irish, everywhere, ‘antisemitic’.

Another family research adventure:
My 2x Great Gran, Kate O'Leary who won't go down in history, anywhere other than in my family but I will attempt to tell her story.

It’s fantastic & a little surreal going to my newsfeed on @bsky.app and seeing posts from all the people I’ve followed for years on Twitter/X which have oddly been missing from my newsfeed on X for the past 18 months. This is going to be an amazing platform👏

Duting Nov I try & post a little something about one of my relatives who served in The Great War. Like most families, multiple members of the young men of my family ended up fighting in the trenches. Thomas Dalton, born 4th July 1895 in Gort, Galway, Ireland was one of them. 🧵

Niall was one of my favourite accounts on the other place. He & his team work little miracles every day (& Liam G got his doggo, Buttons from him ❤️)
I post a lot of good news about dogs on Twitter but A lot of people asking to also post here now.

Struggle to find the time but if I get over 20k followers here I'll find a way to post daily.

🎤 Mic check. Is this thing on?

This is absolutely spot on. I don't want to be worried about posting just in case it attracts the antagonists or lady bots. I just want to read about interesting things & connect with interesting people.
It also misses that for most of us this is a hobby, and Twitter stopped being fun. I don't have some kind of moral obligation to broaden the debate/ communicate for my team/ whatever. It's my phone, it's my time, and they're my thumbs, if I prefer Bluesky its no-ones business but mine.
Some people cannot comprehend that the exodus from X is not 'liberal flight' but a lot of people deciding that the content on the platform - hate/extremism, disinformation, violent/nsfw content, low quality ads, lax responses to user reports, suppression of content - just can't be ignored any more.

Finding so many lovely accounts that I'd 'lost' on the other place, either because they'd left or the algorithm didn't show them anymore, it's like stumbling on a treasure trove.
