Loads of Hawthorn berries this year, but I why are there fewer Hawthorn in Cornwall compared to Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset Somerset....?

Silver-spotted Skipper are making a recovery following several poor years at the site.
Chalkhill and Adonis blue out. Loads of Wall Brown.

Just found several Peacock caterpillars in my garden which look like they are ready to pupate. Very late or a second generation?
I think Peacock will have a second generation, like in southern Europe.

There are so many berries this year. Many appear to be ripening earlier, too.
The warm, sunny & dry spring probably provided perfect conditions for pollinators and for wind blown pollination.
Look at the number of blackberries!

Adonis blue on the wing, quite early and they looked a little smaller than usual - the warm and dry summer?
Good number of Chalkhill blue
Malling Down Lewes
Also, a few Silver-spotted Skipper.
More Wall Brown than usual.

So many Burnet moth chrysalis on Beacon Hill LNR, Rottingdean, Sussex.
On Almost every other grass stem!

A very late Green Hairstreak, I'm not sure I've seen one so late before, overlapping with the first of generation 2 of Small Copper, first Marbled whites and Ringlet at Malling Down @sussexwildlife.bsky.social reserve Lewes.
Also first time I've seen Roe deer 🦌 at the reserve.

Could this be a very early summer generation as opposed to an individual that had overwintered?
Maybe we'll be seeing 2nd generation Peacocks soon

Dandelions ususaly peak on St George's day, they have looked superb on campus.
Birds 🐦‍⬛ heard seen on campus today. Goldfinch, Green woodpecker, loads of Chiffchaff, Black cap, Goldcrest, blackbirds thrushes Herring gulls...

Campus butterfly transect: Cinnabar moth, Speckled wood butterfly, Small white, Holly blue, Red Admiral .
Also lots of St Mark's flies (Bibo marci) slowly flying around bushes at head hight trying to attract a mate.

Other butterfly 🦋 on the transect include Grizeled Skipper, Dingy Skipper, Small Copper, Peacock, Red Admiral, Wall Brown, Speckled Wood, Small Heath, Brimstone and Small White.
