“The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” ~ Stephen Hawking
Is it just me, or is it becoming increasingly clear that there’s no amount of warning or explaining that will change the minds of the terminally MAGA. In fact, it only seems to fuel the hubris. Not saying don’t resist, but we all know where this is going. I just hope they suffer as much or more.

If I need to work through something, I start writing.
Writing is thinking.

It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.
This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.

Weird and random: I changed out my air filter today and why did I draw a broken heart when I dated it?? I’m not a doodler or particularly emo like that. The only thing I can think of is that my 16yo cat Cocoa had just died the week before, so I know I was sad, but…geez. I don’t remember doing this.

Clearly, the RW machine has made headway in memory-holing the #J6 insurrection and attempt to subvert democracy, so I strongly support this! #NeverForget

Odd artifact on a pic I took of my dog Luke in the moonlight last night while we were stargazing. Zoom in on the shiny blue spot on the fence under his chin. What would cause that? Or did I inadvertently capture a portal to another dimension? 👀 Any ideas, #PhotoSky?

All this talk about skeets keeps reminding me of my sweet girl, Skeeter, who survived an unhealthy taste for plastic and a vicious attack by another dog, but crossed the 🌈 bridge nonetheless last year. RIP Skeet Skeet! And long live skeets 🙌

Watching #LIBDC (don’t judge me, I’m obviously behind bc idc but GOING for mind-numbing tonight) and if anyone ever says, “I love the fuck out of you,” it’s an instant no. Absolutely not.

That is all.

You could call it @TrumPutz!
Is there a Trump golfing tracker account anywhere? Like the Elon jet tracker? There should be. Someone needs to get on that!

I can’t shake the feeling that we’re STILL doing it wrong. Is it just me, or is this kind of normalizing the “not good” things? Is this prevaricating headline helping? Is this too “cute” a concept for the moment? What will it take for more direct and serious headlines? #QTNA
As Donald Trump’s nominations for key positions pile up, our columnists are running out of ways to tell you the situation is not good — like, really not good.

Opinion | Are Trump’s Cabinet nominations more like a car crash or a reality show?

Ever since Citizens United, outside spending on elections by groups like super PACs has skyrocketed.

The biggest individual donor to outside spending groups in 2024 was Timothy Mellon — heir to the Mellon banking fortune.

This is how dynastic wealth corrupts our politics.

I can’t get over all the comments saying Trump won’t live long enough to finish his 2nd term. Have we learned nothing? He defies all logic, norms, expectation, and maybe especially our most fervent hopes. Let’s not get high on hopium again.
and so it begins

Not the main point of this story, but a very relevant factor I think isn’t getting enough blame for this mess: Citizens United

As predicted, it’s been a cancer on our democratic process ever since.

HR 9495 would amend the Internal Revenue Code to allow the president, by executive order, along with the Secretary of the Treasury, to designate nonprofits as “terrorist supporting organizations,” and then strip them of their tax exempt status.
I’m sure this won’t be used arbitrarily or in violation of the First Amendment!

I know people are talking about collectively waking up at 3 a.m. on Nov. 6, but I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing an extended IBS flare-up that suspiciously aligns with recent events?

Just discovered this gem and deem it worthy of my first reskeet (re-skeet?) 🙌 It has it all! History, humor, cats!
Someone tagged me into this as, in Drach's absence, the person on BlueSky most likely to know (without guessing) how navies handled cat poo. I am VERY offended.

But they're also right. 😆 Indeed Drach/Dr Alex and I were comparing notes on this back in November.

So thread: How cats shat on ships /1
Bad news: I wrote to the Museum of Maritime Pets in Maine to ask how cat poops and pee were handled on ships before litter was invented. They didn't know! But they're very curious, too, and want me to keep them updated. We can all make educated guesses but I want to see what actual records say.

A tip for finding the people you follow on Twitter, here on Bsky:

Search on Twitter for the phrase "bsky.app" and filter the results to "People You Follow". It will show you people who shared their profile links on a tweet.

Seeing new people joining Bluesky today and seeing people elsewhere publicly stating their intentions to leave those places and come here. Welcome. Bluesky is not owned by a billionaire sucking up to Trump. And it's built on an open protocol so a billionaire can't just take it over.
