yesterday i used llm tools a lot to write a lot of code, overall i'd say that the experience taught me nothing and the whole discourse about 'adapting and learning new tools' is kinda goofy, it's not a new programming language it's a slot machine

Pleading for a world where the reaction to this is a return to standard operating paradigms which don't require a smartphone or an app.
The digital divide, already acute, is going to get worse under tariffs at a moment when it's increasingly impossible to live your life without digital connectivity.
Trump’s Tariffs Will Widen the Digital Divide
Tariffs will raise prices on essential tech and lead to inflation. Experts say that people who depend on cheap stuff to survive are going to suffer the most.

The paradox of the paradox of tolerance is that, as knowledge of the paradox diffuses, dishonest, intolerant actors are incentivized to weaponize its logic and label their ideological enemies as "illiberal."

A new lecture by architect Christopher Alexander from 1995, now shown for the first time. 90 minutes of philosophy in action, as he wrestles with complex issues on a real building site, and with questions from an audience of mostly students.

Went looking for a course / extensive blog post akin to "Scientific Research & Literacy for Laypeople" – trying to improve my ability to find, understand, and evaluate scientific publications

Best thing I found was Calling Bullshit (www.callingbullshit.org) – free video course & syllabus from UW
Calling Bullshit: Videos
The lectures from our Spring 2017 course are available on video.
