The Monsters We Defy, by Leslye Penelope -- Folk magic, a heist, instantly lovable characters, great incorporation of details from 1920s D.C.'s Black Broadway that you'll want to learn more about. Nice mix of the fantastical and the very real. Greatly enjoyed this one. #books

Vi is 23 and depressed, doesn't like her job, almost certainly alcoholic. Things ain't great for Vi. She finds a blob in an alley, takes it home. Is it alien? It can change shape, becomes a sort of pet, then more. This story might not go where you expect. It's very good. Weird fiction of the heart.

A truly inspiring story.

Can't believe i didn't think of this immediately when Hangman produced a fork on Dynamite. But, yeah, it was so much fun to use a fork on your opponents in this game.

The Return of the Native, by Thomas Hardy
I read this long ago, but listened to this audiobook recently. The description of not only the landscape, but the world in general is so well done. Sparse prose has its place, but so much is added to this story through Hardy's talent for description. [1]

This is the brand I buy, and it uses "kosher" like a style. It has a Bible name, but that's the town it was founded in (lots of Bible names over here). Are they actually kosher? IDK. These pics don't show the little circle K mark, and i don't have a jar in the house atm.

Saw this several months ago, and it keeps popping back up in my mind. On the surface it seems controversial, but apply it to what can be seen and experienced in everyday life, and it's plainly true. Explains why so much of what women contribute goes unappreciated and unrecorded.

With all the Chikara folks who wound up in AEW, I'm gonna imagine that Dragon Dragon has a backstage role. They're probably friends with Luchasaurus.

I love snark, but a snarky take is not always a good one. Nobody was bored of having a good life. People were angry and scared about their lives becoming increasingly worse, and they got played by powerful, cynical creeps who spent decades building lie factories, and exploited centuries-old biases.

Absolute Wonder Woman #5 wraps up the first arc in a consistently epic way. I have been enjoying this series so much. Fight with the giant monster has a surprising and badass ending, followed by a really sweet moment. Art is gorgeous. Very good use of Greek mythology.

Justice League Unlimited #4
Superhero teams are just cool. This comic does it very well. Beautiful art. Some quite good character bits this issue. Still intrigued about the mystery villains, very small clue dropped about one of them. Love the range of heroes that get respect here.

This is what he looked like 15+ years ago when I'd drive down the road to watch CWF in Burlington. It's so cool to see wrestlers go from green to vet, indie to top of a tv card. I feel similar about folks i saw at Shimmer, Chikara, or on all them DVDs.
