History buff. Love boardgames (primarily historical, political and military based), but also enjoy some euros and anything strategic and thematic.

Excited to have these two arrive today. One I can pack in a bag to carry anywhere and the other would cost an extra plane ticket to travel with 😃. Looking forward to playing sometime soon. @djackthompson.bsky.social @trevormbenjamin.bsky.social @eaglegryphon.bsky.social.

Terrible service at Barnes & Noble today. Paid $80 for game online/pick up at store (worker acted like I interrupted her day to ask where pick up my game). Go to front show my email guy puts game in bag hands it to me. I get home (hour drive) to see a puncture under Fellowship. @barnesandnoble.com

May not have been an RPG version but he did the giant version last year and people loved it. Here’s a pic.

Only one game this week for me - several games of Hive.

Multiple games of Naishi and one game of 1862 War in Virginia.

Good time playing “1862 War in Virginia” solitaire travel game tonight. 1st pic below is game start where Confederates have the Union on their heels, 2nd pic is 4 rounds remaining and the Union has pushed the Confederates back toward Richmond and the final pic is after the last round. Union victory.

I’m on a Japanese theme kick right now and looking forward to this one for a lot of reasons-1. I’ve enjoyed the original General Orders WW2,. 2. I love Sekigahara (I know it’s a different type of game). 3. It’s David Thompson and Trevor B so can’t go wrong). And I’ve recently added these (seepics).

It’s a solo card game from Worthington Publishing. Here’s some more info.

Only had time for one game and got the (old but good in my opinion) 1960: The Making of the President played. Was teaching a friend.

Only time for one game this past weekend and taught 1960:The Making of the President to a friend of mine. Was hoping to get this one plus 13 Days: The Cuban Missile Crisis and Watergate in. Took us longer to play 1960 than I had planned. Had fun though. @jasondcmatthews.bsky.social #boardgames

Game round 3 comes to an end with the Soviets maxed out on prestige but unable to de-escalate the Defcon track pushing the world into Nuclear war for a Soviet loss.

Learning the game “13 Days”. Playing two-handed (playing each side as I think a player would). At start of round 3, the world is on the brink of nuclear catastrophe. Love how this game creates tense moments and does it in only 3 rounds (plus the aftermath scoring). #wargames #boardgames.

Never played Final Girl. Played tonight and enjoyed it. I’m not a big horror fan, but wanted to play for research. There are mechanics in the game that I may try to use in a game I’m designing. Fun game, very thematic and was tough to win (which I didn’t). Lost fairly quickly. Good game. #boardgames

Just my opinion, but I would say you should not water it down but gradually teach the depth through teaching scenarios that gradually ramp up the complexity/depth as you teach. A couple of good examples I can think of are Fields of Fire Deluxe Edition and Atlantic Chase.

Great day gaming with my friend Daniel. Dune War for Arrakis was tight down to wire and my first time playing Red Flag Over Paris was fun (even though I lost-need some more plays of that one). Now it’s an Old Fashioned and some “light rules” reading. 😁 @gmtgames.bsky.social @fredserval.bsky.social
