I started teaching high school debate at the age of 24 in a very red state…by 26 I was ashamed of my former political self. By 46 I was voted “Most Woke” teacher in the building. It’s been a journey.
I was spoonfed so much politics that I remember reading Jerry Falwell and Lew Rockwell when I was like 10. As for my politics becoming mine, there were so many little moments, but one was:

what made you start 'getting political' i think for me it was when a bored cop threatened to arrest me and my friend for playing near a railroad track and noticing that in this country the cops have guns
