The great thing about buying Apple hardware is that less than ten years in they'll drop support for your hardware and when you try to build a modern compiler it'll give you the GFY.

Not yet 1830 and we’ve had our first large group of trick-or-treaters self identifying as being “six or seven” in size. So I guess that’s 2025 Halloween in the books.

My advice to everybody in software who hasn't done at least some work in a purely functional language is to spend some time doing so, even if it's recreational. Opens up a whole world of niceties, especially around testing. This goog testing post illustrates: testing.googleblog.com/2025/10/simp...

I don't follow political bsky that closely, but is the situation on the ground today that a dem senate candidate has up until recently been playing the Robert Webb part in the "Are we the baddies" sketch?

Only 12 days of puzzles this year and no global leaderboard for Advent of Code. These are pretty great changes. Encourages people to step away from the keyboard for the end of the year and focuses on the fun of the event rather than the competition. Thumbs up, @was.tl!

I don't know about this being the "majority" view (though I'd be happy for it to be), but yeah. This. What we talk about as "AI" today definitely has some uses, but its utility is a very small fraction of its current hype.
Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?
