Remembering the #moss feed exists. Then realizing that I haven't gotten to my out of the suburbs spots in too long.

In any case, it's a good reminder to take a break from the politics my job and union work force me to engage with. I can disengage some. Or a lot.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP):OMB’s General Counsel provided a letter to USDA on May 23, 2025 stating that there is a bona fide need to obligate benefits for October – the first month of the fiscal year – during or prior to the month of September, thereby guaranteeing that benefit funds are available for program operations even in the event of a government shutdown at the beginning of a fiscal year. In addition, Congressional intent is evident that SNAP’s operations should continue since the program has been provided with multi-year contingency funds that can be used for State Administrative Expenses to ensure that the State can also continue operations during a Federal Government shutdown. These multi-year contingency funds are also available to fund participant benefits in the event that a lapse occurs in the middle of the fiscal year. To fulfill this Congressional intent, it is necessary that a limited number of FNS employees be excepted from furlough to support program operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, program policy and operations, financial management, and stakeholder communication

This is an amazing thread! I am unable to donate money (missed my regularly scheduled federal paycheck today) but I am donating some time! They can always use volunteers!

And I have been very thankful for many food banks that have helped me out over the years.

Just finished this sweet book with queer witch themes. Big plus for Appalachian setting and folklore. (Most of my ancestors came to the PNW on the Oregon Trail but were from different parts of Appalachia so I am connecting with that heritage.)

In my quest to expand love, joy,and care in my life and in the world, I now volunteer at the local Humane Society. I started with laundry and dishes, and I am about to work with a dog socialization mentor, and I took in my first small animal foster, this young adult rabbit.

Lucia Falls in SW Washington. It's an important salmon spawning area and the county has made water contact off limits. (It's not the best photo I have but it was the quickest found.)

And blue camas in the Lucia Falls park. It's an important cultural food for the tribes in this area. And still here.
