As New Orleans braces for the arrival of ICE, there is a particular stain that comes with hunting Mexicans and Central Americans in that city. These are the same folks who arrived en masse to help rebuild the city after Katrina and have since become a vibrant part of its renewal.

Fuck ICE to hell.

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

Not just a tragedy for America, but, given the central place the US occupies in the research ecosystem, a tragedy for the world.
“Thousands of very competitive projects in areas like cancer, diabetes, aging, neurological disorders and public health improvements most like went unfunded in 2025.
Similarly, at the National Science Foundation, the roughly 3,000 fewer new grants encompassed reductions to every area of science”
The U.S. Is Funding Fewer Grants in Every Area of Science and Medicine
A quiet policy change means the government is making fewer bets on long-term science.

“'Remove justice, and what are kingdoms but gangs of criminals on a large scale?' Augustine made this suggestion in The City of God. In the country of Trump, we’re getting a convincing demonstration. Justice has been removed and a gang of criminals are in charge."

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

This isn’t just an Atlanta thing — if you needed a taxi in San Francisco on a Friday night in the mid-2000’s you couldn’t get one. There were two phone numbers you could call and you’d mostly get a busy signal.
Anyone in ATL in the late 90s/early 2000s who waited on a taxi to arrive will understand the productivity benefits, even if tangentially related, that ride share and Waymo have provided. Had a friend who would call a wrecker instead of a taxi b/c it was faster, cheaper, and you had your car in AM. 😂

also we now have a “whites only” refugee policy. they aren’t trying to hide the white supremacy anymore. it’s overt and mainstream.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon
