The motion detection alert buzzes him out of his stupor. He’s been looking at the screens for the past three hours, zooming in on every angle in those pictures they’ve gathered from Joey’s outings, but he can’t even remember the last thought he’s had. The past couple of days (weeks) have just been a lot. Elliot checks out the door-camera on one of the smaller screens and his heart skips a beat at the sight of his partner, glaring at him through the camera. And they say I’m glaring and intense… He buzzes her in and walks towards the door to meet her, but she’s faster than him, her strides purposeful and… angry? She’s carrying a paper bag in one hand and comes up close to him, starting off on her tirade before he can even greet her properly. “A bomb, Elliot?! What the hell were you thinking going there and diffusing it?! You’re neither Jack Bauer nor John McClane, for fucks’ sake!” With every new sentence she jabs a finger at his chest. “I-…” “No, I’m not done yet. If you pull a stunt like this one more time I’ll personally walk down there and kick your ass in front of all the cameras.” She drops the paperbag on the nearest desk, closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, letting the air out slowly while drawing her fingers through her long locks. She’s deflating right in front of his eyes and the moment he steps closer to her she already has her arms wrapped around him in a crushing hug. “I’m sorry I scared you. And I wasn’t aware it was live-streamed, Vargas only told me later and I called you right after.” “I know, and I’m glad you did. I just needed to yell at you in person. I was already scared when the broadcast started, and then I see you walk up towards the bomb…” “I promise… I promise that I’ll try not to get into situations like this again… so often…” His small smirk earns him a smack on the head, which is then followed by a soft kiss. “Alright. I brought some food, as I assume you haven’t gotten anything other than snacks from the hospital cafeteria all day. Let’s eat and you can tell me all about Joey. I assume that’s why you’re still here all alone.”
