Stuff and nonsense said the bear.
Never been *above* the Raymond Revuebar sign before. Staying in what was clearly a classic Soho walk-up in sleazier times. Not one I visited myself, but the blu-tack scars from the 'model' cards are still there.

Elegantly dismissive review but Kathryn Hughes of both the biography and of Birkin herself.

And yet her mother, Judy Campbell, doyenne of the West End Stage, Coward's muse, etc and stunning beauty in her own right, remains unbiographised (sp?)

Having an aura attack for 20 minutes but then no migraine is very...odd.

Maybe its the result of putting up the Xmas lights

Idle thought that, at the turn of the previous century, there was significant enough illiteracy that the main way most people got news was through the shouts of newspaper vendors.

Awesome responsibility really

Co codamol is effing magic innit. I mean, why dont we just take a few of these every day?

Thinking about running @rinahaenze.bsky.social 's excellent Saturday the 14th at grogmeet. Not quite sure I have the improvisational chops, but the blood and spatter is nicely satisfying...

Once stood in a q behind him at a Santa Monica bookstore. No one acknowledged him, but he was friendly and chatty.

As he left, the two young women behind the counter shouted 'Hey James!', he turned and they chorused 'we love you!'.

He flashed a huge smile, waved and moved on.

So this is (very) good but it makes that mistake so many film fans do of seeming to believe that film only starts in the sound era.

As @moviessilently.bsky.social incessantly points out, there had been 40 years of film development by then, including some *killer* war films...1/2
This week on War Movie Theatre, it's the war movie to end all war movies: 1930's All Quiet On The Western Front. One of the first big talkie pictures, its influence is still everywhere, a century later. pod.fo/e/351dc9

Best sculpture in Manchester to my mind.

Not that we're good at such things (Peel is okay)
In the lobby of the Britannia, Manchester, a memorial for the dead of SJ Watts, the textile firm for whom the building was built. Also memorials for WW2 and Korea.

(Very well cared for, being cleaned as I took photos).

The sculpture is by Jagger who did the Horse Artillery sculpture in London

Yeah, you dont want to 'put in the Louvre' cos it'll get nicked, innit?
Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Re-watching Children of Men. Didn't realize it was a documentary. 2027 Britain full of litter and graffiti, broken streets, illegal immigrants in cages, tuktuks cluttering up London, and of course moribund birth rate.

Will Clive Owen be along to save is tho?

Yeah, but its also non-slate candidates who are nothing to do the the RT that have no chance of getting in.

As the 'threat' from RT fades, perhaps the @nationaltrust.org.uk should look to end its North Korean election system
Participation peaked in 2023 as Restore Trust mobilised their support & their opponents

Energy dropping now

Endorsed slate
35k (2025)
42-43k (2024)
80k+ (2023)

Restore Trust campaign
12-13k (2025)
17,500 - 20,000 votes (2024)
46k-48k (2023)

Non-slate candidates have little or no chance now

Delighted to do a little thing on Manchester and Sheffield...and thanks to @danhayesjourno.bsky.social and co for knocking into shape...
"Sheffield can’t emulate Manchester. And it shouldn't try.

"It was always smaller, more isolated, more independent and idiosyncratic. These are things the city can sell on a global scale, should it choose to.

"Sheffield can be Portland next to Manchester’s Seattle."

This is typically excellent. Once upon a time iD (or was it Muzik?) magazine asked me to do a top ten of industrial dance. Test Dept's Fuckhead was top of course, albeit the editorial assistant wasn't happy saying the word when she fact-checked
