Judging by its type, our brooch was probably imported from the Continent, not made in Britain, and would've provided function with flair – used both for fastening garments and as a decorative item for the keen to impress, conveying its owner's social status and personal identity. #Roman #Archaeology

👀 Rory's looking just a liiiittle bit smug, as he's recovered this #Roman copper-alloy plate brooch while metal-detecting ahead of excavation. With both inlaid enamel decoration, and gilding on the centre, it's an elegant Romano-British find that likely dates to the 2nd or 3rd century AD... (more)
