just saw a quote where the Silksong devs said that hitting a boss wall after getting a new -vania item, giving up & exploring for new stuff, & coming back to beat the boss was their ideal loop.

Part of what grinds my gears about the last ~10 years of discussing this is that, to some people, saying "I accept the tradeoffs of making my game a dick-flattening machine because making it punishing is the point" is just Not Allowed on point of being considered as having "failed accessibility".

I got around this by having there be 3 main factions with subfactional divisions from there. That way, the real big bads can be just as stupid, crass & chauvinistic as thsy ought to be without flattening the situation.
