If they have been maintaining the building, why were all the doors plastered with asbestos warnings?

Someone doing maintenance should probably have cleaned that up, no? #yqrcc

Maybe the previous councillor of Ward 2 should have been more inquisitive and insightful on their behalf at the time… #yqrcc

In the end, once everything is received/reviewed and approved, it would every prudent to request a FOIP on all the unsuccessful applications. Admin can have their own biases as well, so shining a full light on the whole area will keep everyone honest. #yqrcc

I think you’re right about bidding into their own process: if they WANTED an arena there, owned by the city/run by REAL, then why open RFPs?

I also agree with any indoor buildings as well - we are a winter city - over anything open air, ever again.

It seems like it’s putting a lot on the shoulders of Admin, but if I understood all the clarifying questions about feedback and council input, etc… then any further use of city funds will go to council for proper debate and decision. I think that’s a fair check and balance on the process. #yqrcc

I totally agree regarding priorities and the city’s use of tax money.

But if the “best RFP” for the area does involve a majority level of private investment that does include a semi-professional ball diamond, in terms of value to the city, then I hope Admin can make a good choice. #yqrcc

You know, if Admin deems that a baseball stadium or new arena is the “best fit” based on the quality of ALL RFPs, then maybe we give Admin the benefit of doubt.

We can’t blame council now for what’s going there, if I understood all the clarification about feedback and getting involved. #yqrcc

Yeah absolutely. I thought Varland also did better than other relief outings so far this post season too. In the end, it’s probably Schneider’s fault more than anyone.

Holy shit was a pathetic inning: bullpen, managers, just a rank shit-show.

Paging @alexanderquon.bsky.social and the CBC team to do some follow up media research on this, quickly! #yqrcc #sorry

“Nearing destruction” sounds pretty dramatic… did anyone ask or provide information about how the adult league’s registration numbers have changed year over year for the last 5-6 years? #yqrcc

This is really a problem of the previous council… they needed to get those shovels approved before the changeover because these new councillors are going to hijack the process and continue to incur un-needed cost increases. #yqrcc

Ooooh!! Can I join too? Their 1200 members in a city of 235,000 is not ANY measure of a “large swath”. #yqrcc

It’s getting harder to disagree with new facilities after this weekend though: family tried to go to Red Sox game on Thurs that got rained out after an hour. Then 3 more members tried to go to the Rider game on Friday, sitting for 4.5 hours. Maybe climate change means we need more indoor use.

I think sports teams are your modern equivalent of old-world tribalism. My team is better than your team is pretty similar to my city/country/etc is better than yours… which is not to say tribalism isn’t still prevalent today, but it’s more socially “acceptable” in a stadium/arena…

I only tuned in a few times to check in and at best, only lasted a few minutes before my head started to hurt and I was getting angry.

But it seemed like Bezo spent a lot of time asking pointed, loaded questions and cherry-picking the parts of the answers that suited his narrative. #yqrcc

She also called them "standing ducks" in case of a fire.

Interesting, um, choice of words... #yqrcc
