Hello, I currently am an Assistant Professor and run the Cortical Plasticity Lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Also - sorry for anyone that was grossed out by all the samples. I don't know why they put me directly across from the cafeteria/pizza. On the plus side for sales - the smell of formaldehyde does induce hunger, oddly enough.

1. We assess how different interventions affect motor recovery on a variety of tasks after injury
2. We record neural activity from areas spared from the injury to see how the task-related firing patterns change over time
3. We quantify the expression of markers associated with neuroplasticity

To "simplify" this process, we focus on the motor and somatosensory systems. We try to study the mechanisms in multiple ways, usually in tandem during the same experiments to get a more holistic picture of what is happening. The hope is that we can understand the critical components to recovery.
