Marketer for small teams of people doing good things in their community. Aerialist & teacher. Chaos freelancer.
When I was a kid living in Germany, I had relatives send me cartoons they found. They'd cut them out & mail them every month or so.

I was today years old when I realized that me sending little memes to my friends is the same act of love. I screenshot & send to the people I know will love them.

Maybe instead of purging the Social Security workers who make sure seniors get their checks on time, we should be expanding benefits to make life a little easier for your parents and grandparents.

I did not watch the Superb Owl.

I DID do a lot of thinking about what it says about the marketers that we focus so much on ads that most marketers will never have the budget or team for.

As always, as an industry, we award attention to the flashy & dramatic vs. the steady & solid.

Things I refuse to do:

armchair quarterback overloaded small nonprofit, research or communications teams by posting what they *SHOULD* be doing right now.

I'm not gonna join the chorus of "you should bes" going on right now.

That thing where it "warms up" so you get excited and think "maybe I can walk outside" but the warm up is 10 degrees so it's 23 instead of 11

Yesterday I gave a Marketing Ideas Clear Out workshop for my subscribers.

I loved hearing about what people wanted to do, & guide them through if they should move forward.

Even more fun? Watching people (& ME!) recognize that their great idea ISN'T ready for prime time - now or ever.

Random side note of the day:

If anyone is looking to get rid of their digital versions of a *certain author who will go unnamed because I don't want his name on my timeline* Audible removed the books & short stories from my library upon request and also refunded me a credit.

As with most Gen-Xers, I thought I would be experiencing quicksand far more often than I do, and at the same time I am relieved that I don't have to deal with quicksand because I am absolutely sure it would defeat me instantly.

I do know which forks to use though. You go from the outside in.

So cold here today that I've moved my desk to the middle of the room, following the sun. Like a plant, a lizard, or, a cat.

Today I have spent sending updates to clients whilst simultaneously bugging my husband to talk to me because the house is too quiet without the kids.

I have also spent a ridiculous amount of time lighting and then blowing out candles and rearranging things on counters.

Spending the last day of my holiday break going through my inbox, organizing it, and then doing some mundane businessy tasks. Then I'm going to clean closets.

My favorite part about #FreelanceChat is - as always - I spent about 12% of my time talking about work and the other 88% bs-ing. <3

I missed you guys.

Well, #FreelanceChat friends, since I left the other place, it's been hard to actually post much of anywhere else (unless you count my aerial account, which I do because I'm teaching again so it's also WORK, and I brought on two aerial coaches as clients).

BUT Anyway, hi.

For those who don't know, this was a weekly gathering of freelancing creatives in The Other Place. Different topics each week, expert-led.

Lessons and camaraderie and GIFs ensued.
