Yes, less CGI and more practical effects, please.

The five years rest between Dalton and Brosnan did the franchise a lot of good.

Idris Elba probably also isn't keen on taking on another role which risks a potential racist backlash after getting crap for playing a Norse god while black, Stephen King's Roland while black and soon Man-at-Arms while black.

Riz Ahmed is another actor who's occasionally mentioned as a potential Bond, would be a good choice and piss the usual racists off.

I'd have loved to see Idris Elba as James Bond, whenever his name was bandied around, though he's probably too old for the role by now. Ditto for Romesh Raganathan, who'd be a very interesting choice.

And the racism can go as well.

Personally, I also think that's the way to go. Keep Bond in the 1950s/60s, adapt the original novels and stories in the right order and update the racial and sexual politics to be at least halfway acceptable.

They can still take some liberties, e.g. using the gold irradiation plot rather than the heist from the original. Some of the super dated sexual politics could also be updated.

And the Bond movies always copied trends of the day. The Moore films borrowed from blaxploitation, Star Wars, action comedies like Cannonball Run and many others. Dalton's Licence to Kill is Bond does Miami Vice. GoldenEye is a hacker thriller.

I think part of the problem is also that lots of other movies now offer what you used to be able to see only in Bond movies. Action, car chases, gadgets, exotic locations, over the top villains, beautiful women, great production design are offered by many films these days.

Yes, you're right. Dalton mentioned being married once. Dalton was a very underrated Bond anyway.

I guess there are people who want to see Mickey Mouse, Bambi, Popeye and Winnie the Pooh as bloodthirsty monsters, though I for one won't watch that stuff. And the sad thing is that it's possible to tell good things with reimagined public domain characters.

Though I'd love to see the Fleming novels adapted accurately and in the correct order as period pieces.

Adapting the John Gardner novels would also work. Though don't have to remix the Fleming novels and stories over and over again.

That how it worked for more than 60 years. There was very little continuity between the Bond movies. Lead actors and the supporting cast regularly changed and there were very few references to previous films beyond Bond's murdered wife Tracy being mentioned a few times during the Moore era.

I have admit that I don't get these trashy public domain character horror movies at all, but someone seems to like them.
November 12, 2025 at 11:16 AM
Actually, Weekend at Bond's would be hilarious, but they're not going to do that.
November 12, 2025 at 11:10 AM
Yes, that would also work. Besides, the Craig movies were clearly their own little story arc. If a new Bond were announced and they would just continue without addressing the fact that the Craig Bond died in No Time to Die, no one would bat an eyelash.
November 12, 2025 at 11:09 AM
But then, Amazon didn't pay all those millions for the rights to let James Bond stay dead. Besides, Bond will go into the public domain in 2034. Gotta milk that cow while they can.
November 12, 2025 at 11:06 AM
Or they could just let James Bond stay dead and resting in peace. Cause I for one wouldn't mind if there was never another Bond film again and No Time to Die was a better ending for the character than anybody could have hoped for.

BTW, if you ever find yourself hungry at Kamener Kreuz, Bakery Grobe at the exit Kamen Zentrum on the A1 is highly recommended.
