At #InvaPact3 listening to @laiscarneiro03.bsky.social explaining the new ecological impact metric for biological invasions, and in walks a bloody cat. How perversely poetic

Even the #WorldBank acknowledges that humanity has over-exploited the planet, gone beyond its safe boundaries, and that our economic system is to blame

Good start, but they mention nothing about the fact that we are too many doi.org/10.2139/ssrn...

Set up some passive acoustic monitors on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe yesterday with the Raukkan Rangers to record changes to wetland restoration in terms of bird and amphibian recovery. Thank you to all community members who helped out!

Look at this beauty my daughter found on her way home from work

Dagger moth (Acronicta americana) caterpillar

While those hairs and spikes say 'don't touch - ow', apparently they cause only minor skin irritation for some people

Participated in the @flindersuniversity.bsky.social Sustainability Policy Impact Masterclass yesterday in the city campus at Festival Plaza

Much of the invasive species literature confuses causes (mechanisms) & consequences (impacts)

We introduce a comprehensive typology of 19 impact types across 6 levels of biological organisation (individuals to ecosystems)

Impressive!

Status of the South Australian Feral #Deer Eradication programme now in its 3rd year

- 25,777 deer shot in 3 years
- population halved in that time

All for nought however if deer farms keep leaking animals into the environment

While I don't typically put much stock into #worlduniversityrankings, this is quite impressive

@flindersuniversity.bsky.social was just ranked 21st globally in the @timeshighered.bsky.social Impact Rankings 2025

- 10th for climate action
- 5th for gender equality
- 2nd for reduced inequalities

👏

Always sad when I see the remains of these giants - a legacy of our past environmental destruction. Imagine a world where these giant trees were common 🌏

One of my rare days out in the field today with @not-a-dr.bsky.social. Glorious winter day. Took this from Tower Hill at Mount Crawford looking north — the mist in the distance is over Warren Reservoir
