Once they knew they had lost the least-liberal dozen (or 20, whatever), then it's Schumer's job to unite the party around some plausible message, and I think what @brianbeutler.bsky.social says is a fine one. Could they have got the most liberal Senators on board? Dunno, but that's his job.

If we actually do have a recession it's going to be darkly funny to watch everyone remember that the unemployment rate is vastly more important than the inflation rate again. All those people talking about how keeping prices down is the most important thing will instantly forget they ever said it.
