It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

I love when things are done the hard way for the sake of the craft.
Wait, the new Apple TV intro was real & not CGI?!

Look what I just resurrected! hilariously the date only goes up to 2020. Next step is to see if the time Flip Mino HD sensor has any exposed pins to circuit bend…

I've said it before, but this video on VFX is truly amazing. @tvaziri.com describes this work in such an educational and joyful way. And with lots of space movies, which is a nice bonus.

Thanks @adamlancegarcia.bsky.social for this video 👍

The worst dark design patterns are in school photo and yearbook ordering sites. Ordering a year book and “upgrades” are spread across three different confirmation pages, all of them selected by default and would have added over 50% to the price.

I forgot about tumblr. Looks like one of mine is still up at least, and set up as a subdomain on my site because of course I would do that.

I still have a Tumblr account? Hmm...

the one thing i like about generative ai is when it is wrong. because it is always very, very funny. it is so confident and so enthusiastic while failing, like the very best clown.

so, i'm here to tell you that there MAY be NOTHING FUNNIER than asking ai to do ASCII drawings.

here's donald duck:

i don’t like or understand ai. but it’s wild to see this person, who clearly DOES understand it and obviously knows a LOT about it, be repeatedly told they are stupid?

i think a lot of bluesky thinks the simple solution to discomfort is bullying

which is so weird given we were all surely bullied??

If you missed out on the hardcover for @rob-sheridan.com’s glitch art book, there’ll be 75 more hardcover copies on Tuesday 10/7! I barely made it in for one of the 200 signed hardcovers, so it’ll go fast. But softcover is still available too!
The Glitch Art of Rob Sheridan: Definitive Art Book
Unseen works, insights, and iconic visuals from the glitch visionary behind NIN, Pearl Jam and more, in a landmark hardcover debut.

Post a movie you like with a terrible Rotten Tomatoes score.

Seems fitting since yesterday was the 30th anniversary.

Remember when the entire internet was niche, flawed websites full of a self-selected set of smart, funny, and creative people, instead of every website needing to take over all human social interactions or be deemed a failure? Man, those were the days!

Got IKEA or pretty much any flat pack furniture? Get a bike tool like this. It has almost all the different hex sizes used along with Philips, flathead, and a few sockets & wrenches. No need to have a drawer full of random IKEA pack-in tools for random fixes.

Never used Premiere this early but it reminds me of Media100 with the A/B track and the only way to make transitions was between them.
This is what Adobe Premiere looked like in 1994

Also Hackers will have been released 30 years ago on September 15th. Perfect opportunity to watch it for the first or 100th time!

TIL Dexter Holland, the lead singer of The Offspring, finished his PhD in molecular biology 8 years ago, after pausing his post-graduate studies to focus on the band. His doctoral thesis was directly related to recent HIV research.

“I find math just as exciting as I do punk rock.”

More of this!

Said me in the last ≈12 hours:

“This is what the whole internet used to be, and should be again.” -@rob-sheridan.com

“The new tools are trying to summarize everything but this is rebellion.” -Adam, @battleaxedotco.bsky.social

“Not clever, but you’re adorably dumb.” -wife

I accept all of them.

“And on a personal blog, no less! Kids, this is what the whole internet used to be, and should be again.”

Rob gets it
I love this idea, writing a piece-by-piece breakdown of all the art on your walls as a way to share the artists you enjoy and also as motivation to finally get stuff out of tubes and into frames. And on a personal blog, no less! Kids, this is what the whole internet used to be, and should be again.
My wall finally has art! A couple months ago I painted my office wall painted and put up most of the art prints I own. Here’s a write-up of what’s on the wall including appearances by @rob-sheridan.com, @heikala.bsky.social, Kevin Dart, and David Fincher.
