This trend points to broadening diversity in peace science and growing international interest in CMPS. Notably, this plot also reveals that for three of the last four volumes, at least half of the articles featured authors based outside of the United States.

This tile plot shows that non-US authors are most frequently based in the UK and Germany. It also suggests a gradual expansion in global diversity with more countries appearing in recent years — a positive trend towards greater inclusivity at CMPS.

In 2023, 101 female scholars agreed to review (54% of those invited), compared to 161 males (62%). With fewer female scholars invited and a lower acceptance rate, the overall imbalance highlights the need for greater gender parity in the review process.

The line graph below reveals that acceptance rates for both male and female authors have consistently ranged between 10–20% over the past six years. Across the entire period, male authors had an acceptance rate of 14.4%, while female authors had a slightly higher rate of 18.4%.

This plot illustrates the steady rise in acceptances for articles submitted by female authors in recent years. We are incredibly proud of this positive step towards improving gender representation in peace science.

While male authors submit to CMPS much more frequently, the acceptance rate for female authors is slightly higher. Since 2015, CMPS has published 188 articles by male and 88 by female authors, equating to an acceptance rate of 13% for male and 18% for female authors.

There has been a gradual upwards trend in female contributions, but it is only from around Volume 34 in 2017 where we see more consistent proportions of female authors. This development was shockingly recent, and while progress is being made, persistent gender disparity is clear.

It’s incredibly encouraging to see this trend in submissions from female authors over the past few years in this plot. This reflects positive progress towards greater gender representation in peace science.
