Obviously this is just blackjack, but theres a bunch of things we can add on. Every card can represent a unit of time, and we can parallelize a bunch of people doing different activities in the same scene in real time, seeing how someone busts while someone else is gathering and they stop to help

Checks have attributes associated, and cards of that attribute are like aces. So if that 6 was a 6 of clubs and clubs was the attribute for the check, youd be at 6, and succeed

For example, you are scavenging some berries with a TN of 6 and a crit of 10; you flip a 3, see its not enough, flip a 2, and hit one more time and get a 6. While gsthering berries you got bit by a rattlesnake and dropped them and are poisoned

The immediate implementation that comes to mind is: you have a deck of cards with numbers and suits/attributes. When you test, you flip a card; if your total is less than TN, you can fold or hit. >=TN, succeed or hit. =Crit (fixed number), critical success; >crit, failure with large consequence
